The company estimates that government taxation accounts for roughly $13.68 of meal preparations on Turkey Day.
Convey calculated the government will collect $3.6 billion in taxes from food, drink and travel expenses on Thanksgiving. Moreover, the average Thanksgiving dinner tax bill alone has increased nearly $6 since last year to just under $50, with 36 percent of all Thanksgiving costs made up of a special ingredient: taxes.
