AICPA and CIMA add all major practice areas to 'Competency and Learning' site

The AICPA and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) announced on Tuesday that they have expanded their AICPA-CIMA Competency and Learning website to support all major practice areas in management accounting and public accounting with new learning resources and competency-development tools.

Launched in 2015, the site represents a joint project between the AICPA and CIMA to allow users to take a more customized approach to learning and development throughout their career. The site includes self-assessment tools and relevant material from more than 2,500 learning resources – including articles, videos, publications, webcasts and online courses – to help them stay on top of today's changing business landscape.

The site originally provided the framework for Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA®) designation holders, but was later broadened to include more topics, such as employee benefit plan auditing, governmental auditing, not-for-profit accounting, financial accounting and reporting, and assurance.

Recently, new topics – developed by some of the profession’s top experts – have been added, including:

  • Tax
  • Personal Financial Planning
  • Forensic & Valuation Services
  • Firm Practice Management
  • Fair Value Measurement
  • IT Management & Assurance

“This is now truly a one-stop destination for public accountants, management accountants and finance professionals looking to take control of their careers and pursue new skills and expertise,” said Clar Rosso, the AICPA’s vice president of Member Learning and Competency, in a statement. “It’s a source of guidance that’s available anytime, anywhere, whether you’re working on a laptop or a mobile device, and fits the needs of today’s more self-directed and on-the-go professionals.”
