Sensiba San Filippo merges in SGA

Sensiba San Filippo LLP, a Regional Leader based in Pleasanton, California, is adding SGA CPAs & Consultants LLP, a firm based in Bend, Oregon, effective Dec. 15, 2021.

The deal will expand Sensiba’s presence in Oregon, giving SSF more access to the state’s agricultural industry clients, along with its growing venture capital and technology sectors.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SSF ranked No. 16 on Accounting Today’s 2021 Regional Leaders list for the Top Firms in the West, with $33.9 million. Revenue for the combined firm is expected to be over $50 million for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2022. SSF has 18 partners and 220 staff members, while SGA has three partners and 18 staffers.

Sensiba sees opportunities to grow its client base in Oregon. “We are thrilled to be merging with such an incredible firm,” said SSF managing partner John Sensiba in a statement Tuesday. “The quality of the people and strong cultural fit was really the driving factor behind this decision. We are excited about the opportunity to expand into the central Oregon market. It’s a growing region with a large agricultural market and a burgeoning venture capital and technology market, which have been key client groups for us.”

SGA dates back to 1989 and provides accounting, tax preparation and consulting services to high-net-worth individuals and privately held businesses in different industries.

“Merging with a larger firm will afford increased opportunities for our clients and staff, allowing access to resources and specialists beyond our current capacity,” said SGA partner Amber Yates in a statement. “We can now tap into the larger bank of knowledge and services SSF can provide. Finding a firm that shares our values and culture was important for us and, as a Certified B Corp, SSF definitely checks that box.”

Sensiba plans to retain SGA’s Oregon office, adding to its four existing offices in the San Francisco Bay Area.

SSF has not announced many M&A deals in recent years, but in 2017, Sensiba acquired Slater Moffat, a CPA firm in Fresno, California, and Kupperberg & Associates in San Francisco.
