REDW adds Mack & Rohwedder

REDW LLC, a regional CPA firm in the Southwest, merged in Mack & Rohwedder, P.C., a tax and accounting firm based in Phoenix, on Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. REDW, based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, ranked in 4th place on Accounting Today’s 2018 Regional Leaders list of the Top Firms in the Southwest, with $29.54 million in annual revenue.

REDW has been searching for locally owned firms in the Southwest with good reputations to merge with and found M&R. “REDW’s decision to join forces is part of its strategic plan to continue to expand its tax service offerings and geographic footprint in the Arizona market,” REDW managing principal Steve Cogan said in a statement.

As part of the deal, M&R managing partner Barbara Rohwedder and senior accountant Claire Oddo are joining REDW as tax senior manager and tax senior accountant, respectively. They are the only two M&R employees joining REDW.

“My intent was to find a firm that offered just the right combination of expertise, talent, resources, client focus, and culture,” Rohwedder said in a statement. “I found that in REDW, a firm that has long been respected in Arizona and all throughout the Southwest. Ultimately, though, it is all about my clients and my team. I wanted to merge into a firm I trust will meet their needs and service expectations now and in the future. Similarly, I was looking for a firm that can provide real career opportunities for team members.”

REDW plans to keep searching for other reputable locally owned merger candidates in the region with similar values. In December 2016, it merged in Edelman Company, an accounting firm in Phoenix that specializes in servicing physicians and medical practices.

“The acquisition of Barbara’s practice deepens our commitment to meeting the growing needs of our diverse client base, here in Arizona and all throughout the Southwest and beyond,” stated Sandy Abalos, principal-in-charge of REDW’s Phoenix office. “Barbara’s specialty areas complement REDW’s tax offerings, including individual and business tax planning, closely held business taxation, small business accounting systems consulting and individual taxation.”
