The New Jersey Society of CPAs has announced 10 more winners of its Student Loan Debt Lottery. Now in its second year, the program helps offset costs on the road to becoming a CPA.
The Debt Lottery was created by the NJCPA Student Loan Debt Task Force and funded by the NJCPA Scholarship Fund. The 10 recipients were chosen out of 174 lottery applicants. Winners had student loan debt ranging from $11,000 to $231,314, with an average of $69,000.
“It’s truly a pleasure to be able to give back to CPAs amid hefty student loan debt. It is an issue affecting many in the United States, especially those studying accounting,” said Melissa Dardani, managing member of MD Advisory Services and a member of the Student Loan Debt Task Force, in a statement. “We created the lottery to lighten the debt load of accounting professionals and give them an incentive to stay in the profession.”
The 2022 NJCPA Student Loan Debt Lottery winners include:
- Seth Boadi, ACCA;
- Bennie Eneh, partner at Bece Consultants;
- Regina Ficarra, staff accountant at WilkinGuttenplan;
- Rushil Jain, staff at EisnerAmper;
- Courtney McLaughlin, senior tax analyst at Johnson & Johnson;
- Matthew Mojica, CPA at WithumSmith+Brown;
- Larissa Ng, audit assistant at Deloitte;
- Shuoyi Portelli, owner at Portelli Consulting;
- Benjamin Prill; and,
- Kevin Roenian, associate at WilkinGuttenplan.
“College costs have soared in recent years," said Zachary Cohen, manager at CFGI and a member of the Student Loan Debt Task Force, in a statement. "This lottery is a step in the right direction towards acknowledging that and assisting where we can. Today’s accounting professionals are especially in need of financial savings as they fulfill the requirements to become a CPA or just recently completed their CPA and have considerable debt.”
