NJCPA announces 2022 student scholarships

The New Jersey Society of CPAs announced it is accepting applications from local high school seniors and college accounting majors for its 2022 accounting scholarships.

The NJCPA will provide $1,500 scholarships to college-bound New Jersey high school seniors who intend to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting, with no less than 24 accounting credits.

New this year is a $1,500 Minority Scholarship, funded by Deloitte, to attract more students of color to accounting careers. The four New Jersey high schools selected as part of the scholarship's pilot program include Rahway High School, West Orange High School, New Brunswick High School and East Side High School in Newark. Minority high school seniors from the four high schools must intend to major in accounting in college to receive the scholarship. Six to eight candidates from each high school are expected to receive the award.

“We are grateful to Deloitte for making the new minority scholarship a reality for many deserving students, and we are pleased, as always, with the generosity of our members in making an accounting career more affordable,” said NJCPA CEO and executive director Ralph Albert Thomas in a statement.

The deadline to submit applications for both high school scholarships is Dec. 10, 2021.

The NJCPA is also accepting applications for its $6,500, one-year scholarships for accounting students currently attending New Jersey colleges or universities who are in their junior or senior year and entering an accounting graduate program.

Additionally, college sophomores who are continuing their accounting education at a four-year New Jersey college are encouraged to apply for a new $2,000 scholarship.

Both college scholarship awards have an application deadline of Jan. 7, 2022.

All winners will be notified in early March. For more information, head to the NJCPA's site here.
