MGI Worldwide launches 'Women Who Lead' group

Global accounting network MGI Worldwide announced the launch of its Women Who Lead group to support top female leaders from the network's member firms.

The new group aims to "inspire positive change throughout the network and in the profession" and to "communicate how accessible the accounting industry is and the wealth of opportunities it presents for women." according to MGI.

MGI recently held its first meeting, featuring women partners from the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, North America and Latin America. Attendees shared their experiences as leaders in a predominantly male-led profession.

“When I started my career almost 30 years ago, finding women in leadership positions was very rare," said Karin Monchak of MGI Assurance Auditores Independentes S.S. in Brazil, per a statement. "There is still a lot to improve, but this initiative at MGI motivates us to continue to do a great job and contribute to an important legacy in our organization."

“When I joined MGI Worldwide’s International Committee I was 29 years old, Asian and a woman and I remember thinking that no one was interested in what I had to say," added Pallavi Dinodia of Dinodia Consulting in India, per a statement. "But I realized that everybody has a voice and an opinion and if you are saying something with conviction, and it makes sense, then others will respect you for it.”

The new group already has 30 members representing 20 MGI firms across 16 countries, according to Maxine Brock, international marketing director at MGI.

Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, MGI is asking its members to share their experiences as female leaders within the accounting profession. Interested parties can contact Maxine Brock for further details at maxine.brock@mgiworld.com.
