Applications are now being accepted through July 9 for the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council.
The IRSAC serves as an advisory body to the commissioner and provides a public forum for discussion of tax administration issues between IRS officials and representatives of the public.
Among its functions, the council proposes enhancements to IRS operations; recommends changes to improve taxpayer service, compliance and tax administration; discusses information reporting issues; addresses issues concerning tax-exempt and government entities; and shares public perceptions of professional standards and best practices for tax pros.
Members, who are appointed to three-year terms, submit a report to the commissioner annually at a public meeting. Applications are being accepted for terms that will begin in January.
Nominations may come from individuals or organizations. Members are from diverse backgrounds representing a cross-section of the taxpaying public with experience concerning tax preparation for individuals, small businesses and large, multinational corporations; tax-exempt and government entities; information reporting; and the taxpayer or consumer perspective.
