IRS launches group mailbox pilot for large biz taxpayers

The Internal Revenue Service's Independent Office of Appeals is running a pilot program through March 31 to enhance secure messaging for large business taxpayers that have multiple representatives.

"Corporate Group Mailboxes" allow eligible business taxpayers with a team of representatives to request a group mailbox to communicate with the Appeals office employee assigned to their case.

The features include:

  • 24/7 online access to secure digital messages;
  • Streamlined communication with central access for multiple authorized individuals;
  • Secure records sharing; and,
  • Faster case resolution.

Mailboxes must be established manually by the Appeals office. Large business taxpayers represented by multiple individuals with an open case should ask their assigned Appeals employee if the program is available for them.
