As vice chair, Hua will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the ISSB's strategies to support and include stakeholders in emerging and developing economies as well as small and medium-sized companies. This means he is more responsible for day-to-day, on-the-ground matters while the other vice-chair, Sue Lloyd, is responsible for the overall organization of the ISSB's work and its technical staff, as well as the connection between the ISSB and the International Accounting Standards Board to ensure the two boards' requirements are complementary.
While serving as the vice president of the World Bank, Hua's duties included green bond initiatives and sustainable finance capacity-building programs. He also served as the administrator of the World Bank Group Pension Fund. He has previously served as deputy treasurer of the Asian Development Bank and has held positions at the United Nations Development Program and the African Development Bank.
"Sustainability is a defining issue for our generation," ," said Hua in a statement. "I am thrilled to join the ISSB and look forward to working with partner organizations and institutions to deliver capacity-building initiatives on sustainability disclosures both internationally and with particular focus on emerging and developing economies."
The now-completed ISSB sports, besides Hua and Lloyd, chair Emmanuel Faber; Richard Barker; Jenny Bofinger-Schuster; Verity Chegar; Jeffrey Hales; Michael Jantzi; Hiroshi Komori; Bing Leng; Ndidi Nnoli-Edozien; Tae-Young Paik; Veronika Pountcheva; and Elizabeth Seeger. Hua will be based in the foundation's Montreal office.
