The Institute of Internal Auditors’ new president and CEO, Anthony Pugliese, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance to advance the internal audit profession in Vietnam.
Under the deal, internal auditors in Vietnam will have the ability to get access to the IIA’s global standards, guidance, resources and tools, as well as participate in training programs at different career levels. Vietnamese auditors will also be able to receive global internal audit certifications, such as the Certified Internal Auditor, along with the Internal Audit Practitioner program. In addition, they will be able to collaborate with local partners in developing and delivering training for internal auditors in the public and private sectors.
The Florida-based IIA, which already has 200,000 members in close to 200 countries and territories, has been developing a presence in Vietnam over several years. In 2018, it formed the IIA–Vietnam Network to organize a variety of services dedicated to education and advancement of internal auditors in Vietnam. The following year, the Vietnam Ministry of Finance issued an internal audit decree that provides a legal framework for the establishment and implementation of internal audit in accordance with the IIA’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.

Together, we will continue to work toward our mutual goal to raise the profile of internal audit in Vietnam, strengthen stakeholders’ understanding of the value that internal audit brings to organizations, and advance the profession in Vietnam and globally.”
Pugliese took over on April 1 from the IIA's longtime president and CEO, Richard Chambers. Pugliese was formerly president and CEO of the California Society of CPAs.
