IIA offers IT General Controls certification

The Institute of Internal Auditors unveiled an IT General Controls Certificate Program on Thursday to train auditors on how to weigh technology risks, controls, programs, compliance, and policies.

The program uses a self-study format, concentrating on 12 technology areas including IT essentials, security, applications, operating systems, IT change management, project management practices, and third-party technology-related risks.

As more accountants and auditors broaden their technology skills to meet the demands of today’s organizations, training and certification programs can provide a structured format for learning advanced tech competencies and make them more attractive in the hiring market.

“Technology plays such an important role in business operations, from the challenges it presents each day to the opportunities it offers for future success,” said IIA president and CEO Anthony Pugliese in a statement Thursday. “Whether we’re talking about cyber security, data analytics, cloud computing, robotics or artificial intelligence, it’s crucial that internal auditors increase their skills to better engage and understand the impacts of technology. The IIA’s IT Control Certificate Program is an important offering to educate and validate an internal auditor’s knowledge and competency in IT auditing.”
