Greatland buys Information Returns

Greatland Corporation, the company behind W-2, 1099 and 1095 filing solution Yearli, announced it has acquired New Hampshire-based Information Returns Inc., which provides 1099 and W-2 support solutions. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

A Greatland spokesperson said the company is always on the lookout for similar businesses that serve similar markets. Further, they noted that Information Returns founder Alfred Dorf Jr. had been looking for an exit strategy but wanted to make sure its customer base would still be well-served. This specific acquisition allowed Greatland to add new customers in its target market while providing the customer service and support Information Returns was looking for upon exit.

Over the next few months, Information Returns customers will be transitioned to Greatland's Yearli platform, a complete federal, state and recipient wage and information reporting platform for businesses, accountants, and related service providers in the market.

"Information Returns has built a strong reputation, providing federal and state W-2 and 1099 filing capabilities for a range of businesses," said Kerry Mungons, President and CEO of Greatland Corporation. "This acquisition continues to grow our market share while bringing our full product offering to Information Returns' established customer base."

Dorf, in a letter to customers about the acquisition, praised the Greatland team as "highly trained and very knowledgeable" on W-2 and 1099 reporting, and expressed confidence in the Yearli platform.

"Greatland is a great company with a track record of innovation and service that reaches back 50 years. I know Information Returns customers will be very well-served going forward, with access to more products and services backed by outstanding technical support," said Dorf, founder of Information Returns.

He said that they will soon receive an introductory call directly from their new Account Manager at Greatland to discuss filing needs for this upcoming tax season. He added that a conversion program will be available to bring forward customers' prior year's 1099 and W-2 name, address, and tax id information in a format compatible with Greatland's Yearli.

Greatland Corporation had been making acquisitions at a steady pace for a few years, though has been relatively quiet on this front as of late. Most recently, the company announced it had acquired W-2/1099 prep company Jasteck (see previous story); two years before that, it had bought high-volume reporting solutions provider JAT Software (see previous story); and one year before that had bought Aabet Business Systems, which provides checks and tax forms and related services to businesses (see previous story). Greatland's most recent acquisition was TaxFormStore.net, purchased in 2022.

A Greatland spokesperson said it has purchased all marks and tradenames of Information Returns. Greatland will not be maintaining or selling that software however, as all Information Returns customers will easily be transitioned to Greatland's Yearli platform.
