Alan S. "Al" Bernikow, who gained prominence as a leader of several consulting and accounting firms, passed away on Sept. 26, 2023, at the age of 82.
He and his wife of 50 years, Joan, lived on Staten Island, New York, and in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Following his retirement as deputy CEO of Deloitte & Touche, predecessor to the global firm Deloitte, he became a co-founder and partner of both K2 Integrity, an international risk advisory firm, and Kroll Bond Rating Agency.
Earlier, he was national administrative partner in charge of internal administration and finance for the accounting firm J.K. Lasser & Company. Bernikow's insight and guidance have been sought out by many corporations, and he served on the boards of Revlon Inc. and Revlon Consumer Products Corp., UBS Global Asset Management Inc., Mack-Cali, Destination XL Group, Inc., and Florida Community Bank (f.k.a. Premier American Bank NA).
He and his wife Joan were known as generous philanthropists and supporters of a wide range of service and civic organizations, including the Joan & Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center of Staten Island. He also was a member of the boards of the Jewish Communal Fund, United Jewish Communities — The Federations of North America, UJA — Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, and Richmond University Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 2:30pm at the Joan & Alan Bernikow Jewish Community Center of Staten Island.
