The Florida Institute of CPAs gathered over 100 CPAs on an annual CPA Day visit to the state capital in Tallahassee to promote the importance of the CPA profession in the Sunshine State and advocate for 2025 legislative priorities, including more flexibility in obtaining a CPA license.
This year, the FICPA said it's supporting legislation that offers innovative pathways to CPA licensure in Florida while maintaining strong standards and protecting the public trust. The goal is to provide an effective, efficient licensure process that strengthens and promotes the state's economy, meets growing workforce demands, and maintains safeguards that protect the public interest.
"My top priority is protecting the CPA license and maintaining the integrity of our profession. I am committed to working with our partners in the Legislature to make Florida a model for the rest of the nation," said FICPA's president and CEO Shelly Weir in a statement Thursday. "Our proposed legislative changes will modernize the license, offer more options and provide efficiencies in the licensure process. This ensures Florida remains a leader in pro-business CPA licensing that helps individuals do business and get to work in our great state."
