Microsoft announced in October 2019 it would sunset Dynamics GP, its midmarket business and accounting offering, with support ending by 2028. Now, the company promises to keep support going well beyond 2028.
There are some older versions of Dynamics GP governed by a fixed lifecycle, and support for these version has already ended, or will, by 2028:
But these versions will continue to be supported well beyond 2028:
Product | Mainstream support | Extended support | Lifecycle definition |
Dynamics GP 2013 and GP 2013 R2 | Ended April 4, 2018 | Ends April 11, 2023 | Dynamics GP 2013/Dynamics GP 2013 R2 |
Dynamics GP 2015 and GP 2015 R2 | Ended April 14, 2020 | Ends April 8, 2025 | Dynamics GP 2015/Dynamics GP 2015 R2 |
Dynamics GP 2016 and GP 2016 R2 | Mainstream support ends July 13, 2021 | Ends July 14, 2026 | Dynamics GP 2016/Dynamics GP 2016 R2 |

The products above are governed by the Microsoft Modern Lifecycle policy, which covers products and services that are serviced and supported continuously. Under this policy, the product or service remains in support if the following criteria are met:
Milestone | Example date | Description |
June update | June 1 | Tax updates, regulatory updates, hotfixes |
October update | October 1 | New capabilities, hotfixes |
December Update | December 1 | Tax updates, regulatory updates, hotfixes |
- Customers must stay current as per the servicing and system requirements published for the product or service;
- Customers must be licensed to use the product or service; and
- Microsoft must currently offer support for the product or service.
With the new Modern Lifecycle commitment, Microsoft plans to make more frequent updates to GP. The all-inclusive updates promise to be easier to manage and deploy versus the larger, less frequent updates Microsoft has historically made.
