Dean Dorton-sponsored horse to race in 150th Travers Stakes

Dean Dorton Allen Ford, based in Lexington, Kentucky, announced that the firm will once again sponsor racehorse Tax as he races in the 150th Travers Stakes in Saratoga Springs, New York, this coming Saturday.

Tax recently placed fourth this year at the Belmont Stakes and won the Grade 2 Jim Dandy at Saratoga on July 27. Tax is ridden by jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr., trained by Danny Gargan and owned by R. A. Hill Stable, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Hugh Lynch and Corms Racing Stable’s.

The initial sponsorship came about when Patti Reeves, of Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, reconnected with her friend Donna Logsdon, a Dean Dorton staff member. Reeves learned of Logsdon's career at an accounting firm, and the sponsorship opportunity came from their connection.

“We are thrilled to continue this sponsorship as Tax competes and it has given us the opportunity to talk more about our brand and our history that is deeply rooted in serving equine clients in such a broad spectrum,” said David Bundy, president and CEO of Dean Dorton, in a statement. “Given the momentum of the firm’s growth and years of expertise in the equine industry that is being recognized nationally and internationally, this is such a natural fit for us. Albeit somewhat strange that an accounting firm is sponsoring a horse, but Tax really is the perfect fit and this is a perfect opportunity for us as a firm.”
