CliftonLarsonAllen merges in MWA CPA + Business Advisors

MWA CPA + Business Advisors, a firm based in Plano, Texas, has joined CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, a Top 100 Firm, effective Nov. 1, 2018.

MWA services the Dallas-Fort Worth area and beyond and has grown into a leading business advisory firm there, particularly for health care clients.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. CliftonLarsonAllen ranked 8th on Accounting Today’s 2018 list of the Top 100 Firms and had annual revenue of $850 million. CLA has more than 5,400 people, including over 700 principals. MWA did not disclose its revenue. Its team of 42 people, including three principals are joining CLA, working from CLA’s Plano and Fort Worth offices while expanding CLA’s Texas team to more than 200 professionals.

“As problem solvers and business builders, everything we do is designed to strengthen the people and organizations we serve,” said MWA managing partner Mike White in a statement. “Joining CLA means we can take this promise to another level. The synergies between MWA and CLA in the health care space, along with our shared focus on the small business owner and entrepreneur, allow us to expand the opportunities we can create for our clients, our people, and our community.”

Jerry McMillon, managing principal of CLA’s Dallas office, sees the combination as a good fit. “Culturally and strategically, this is a fantastic fit and a lot of fun,” he stated. “Our clients count on us to know them, uncover opportunities, and bring new ideas that can move them forward faster. That is the CLA Promise.”

Koltin Consulting Group CEO Allan D. Koltin advised both firms on the deal. “CLA is performing nationally at a level that is off the charts compared to their peers,” he said. “The team’s leadership, innovation and endless passion for delivering a great client experience truly distinguish them in the markets they serve. CLA’s ability to develop talent and future leaders is as good as you will see in the industry today. MWA is the kind of firm that many regional and national firms wanted on their team, but CLA’s strategy, culture, and service offerings made for the perfect alignment. Mike White is a one of a kind leader — he is young, entrepreneurial, and has an amazing skill that allows him to relate to people and clients and make a difference in their lives. His talented team will make CLA’s Dallas-Fort Worth region an even bigger powerhouse than they are presently.”

CLA has done a number of mergers in the past year, combining in July with Darton Group Consulting, a firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and with Duggan & Massey in Atlanta. In May, CLA expanded in California by adding the Beverly Hills firm Laffer & Gottlieb. Last December, it merged in NSBN LLP in Los Angeles.
