Citrin Cooperman merges in McNulty

Citrin Cooperman, a Top 25 Firm based in New York, has added McNulty & Associates, Inc., a consulting firm in Westford, Massachusetts, that specializes in helping clients price their services to win federal government contracts.

As part of the deal, president and CEO Michael McNulty will be joining Citrin Cooperman as a partner. He and his team will become part of Citrin’s Government Consulting Practice and a newly established Government Contracting Specialty Advisory Services practice.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Citrin Cooperman ranked No. 23 on Accounting Today’s 2022 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $350 million in annual revenue.

The deal is the latest in a string of mergers since the private equity firm New Mountain Capital acquired a majority interest in Citrin Cooperman, causing the firm to split off its non-attest side into Citrin Cooperman Advisors LLC, while the attest side is known as Citrin Cooperman & Co. LLP.

In the six months since New Mountain invested an undisclosed sum, Citrin Cooperman merged in Appelrouth, Farah & Co. PA, in Coral Gables, and Bloom, Gettis & Habib PA, in Miami, and music industry consultancy Massarsky Consulting in New York. Last November, Citrin added OLC Management Inc., a California-based business management firm in the entertainment industry.

The McNulty deal expands Citrin’s presence in helping federal government contractors. For the past 15 years, McNulty has led a team of research analysts, technology experts, pricing and financial analysts, technologists and parametric modelers to provide clients with so-called “price-to-win” competitive analysis and assessment services to bid for lucrative government contracts.

“We are excited to have Michael and his experienced team join our firm,” said Citrin Cooperman CEO Alan Badey in a statement Tuesday. “Their collaborative culture will fit perfectly with Citrin Cooperman, creating even more value for our growing government contracting business. We have great expectations for the success of this new practice area, and we look forward to the opportunity to expand and strengthen the capabilities of our overall Government Contracting Practice.”

In responding to a request for proposals on a government contract, the McNulty team uses a methodology that supports many types of bids, with its analysts applying estimating techniques and metrics for competitive pricing.

“This is the perfect opportunity to expand our best-in-class practice with the ability to increase our resources and gain entry to new markets,” McNulty said in a statement. “By joining forces with the team at Citrin Cooperman, our clients will have access to enhanced services and support that accelerate and maximize their growth efforts.”
