Practice management software provider Canopy has integrated with Intuit’s QuickBooks Online, allowing accountants to sync their contacts, service items and invoices, and process payments and deposits between the two systems.
QuickBooks Online users can track the financial health of an accounting firm, while using Canopy to manage and track staff efficiency, client relationships, client communications, billing and collections, and engagement profitability. The integration will enable Canopy users to avoid constantly switching between the two systems to view those measurements.
Accounting software providers have been relying on integrations such as the one announced Wednesday by Canopy as a way to build their user base by appealing to the customers of other widely used systems. Intuit has been transitioning much of its small business customer base to QuickBooks Online in recent years as accounting technology moves to the cloud.
Canopy contends that no competing practice management system offers the ability to sync contacts, service items, invoices, payments and deposits with QuickBooks Online. “Our complete integration makes the bank reconciliation process the simplest on the market when working with QBO,” said Canopy chief product officer Larry Furr in a statement Wednesday. “Our goal has always been to provide one software that accounting practitioners can run their entire practice from. Canopy’s integration with QBO is another step toward providing our users with the tools they need to cut down dramatically on admin and instead focus on delivering excellent results for their customers.”
Canopy can act as the main system for recording client information, syncing automatically with QBO for practice management. Users can track time by service items, create an invoice, convert the tracked time into a line item on an invoice, and share invoices with clients. The invoices and service items will then sync with QBO for month-end reconciliation. When Canopy customers integrate with QBO, if they update their contacts in Canopy they are also updated in QBO and Intuit’s ProConnect Tax Online.
QBO integration is included in the Canopy’s standard package. Payments and deposits integration will be added next month.
