BDO USA sees revenue grow 10.9%, passing $2B

BDO USA LLP reported revenue of $2,000,300,000 for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2021, a year-over-year increase of 10.9%.

The Chicago-based firm said Tuesday this represents the ninth consecutive year of growth for the firm under CEO Wayne Berson’s leadership. In fiscal year 2021, BDO combined with nine other firms, including Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra in January and digital marketing firm DemandGen International in March, and added new strategic offerings to its existing services. Revenue increased across all of BDO’s business lines, with advisory and tax services experiencing revenue increases of 17.1% and 17% respectively, in response to pandemic-related demand for help. Assurance (3%) also saw growth as BDO auditors leveraged remote technology to continue delivering services.

BDO’s growth indicated the accounting profession is managing to weather the pandemic by adjusting to remote work and helping clients deal with the challenges.

“Amid the uncertainty and complexity of the past year, I’m proud that our people continued to adapt and innovate,” Berson said in a statement. “Each of our practices demonstrated agility and resourcefulness, pivoting to meet the impacts of the pandemic as it evolved. Our professionals remained focused on exceptional client service, and our continued growth demonstrates their tenacity, creativity and commitment to finding solutions to overcome the unique challenges of this period, helping us to achieve this remarkable milestone.”

As the economy recovers and grows, BDO hopes to extend its strategic plans to provide sustainable, long-term growth in the future.

“Despite the pressures facing our industry, the broader business community and our nation at large, Wayne and the entire BDO USA leadership team have continued to deftly guide our growth strategy,” said BDO USA chair Kelly Johnson in a statement. “By expanding into new markets and strategically adding services — while still delivering organic growth among our existing business lines — BDO USA has become a $2 billion firm. Each of our people have played a key part in this accomplishment by staying rooted in our people-first culture and leaning into an incredibly unique year of work to ensure client expectations were not only met but exceeded.”
