The American Institute of CPAs is accepting applications for the 2022 Private Companies Practice Section George Willie Ethnically Diverse Student Scholarship and Internship program.
Scholarships and paid internships will be provided to 10 minority accounting students who are pursuing CPA licensure. Scholarships are worth up to $10,000 each and aid students with their final year of tuition.
The program honors the legacy of George Willie, former chair of the AICPA’s PCPS Executive Committee and the AICPA Minority Initiatives Committee, who promoted the benefits of accounting careers to students over his 35-year career.
Ten PCPS member firms will each sponsor a student for an internship during the 2023 busy season. Participating member firms include:
- BBD, LLP — Philadelphia;
- Bernard Robinson & Company, LLP — Greensboro, North Carolina;
- Blackman & Scoop, CPAs, PA — Chapel Hill, North Carolina;
- Brown, Edwards, & Company LLP — Roanoke, Virginia;
- Lance CPA Group — Chicago;
- Lurie, LLP — Minneapolis;
- Novogradac & Company LLP — San Francisco;
- REDW — Albuquerque;
- Smith Patrick CPA — Webster Groves, Missouri; and,
- Tonneson + CO — Wakefield, Massachusetts.
"The George Willie scholarship program helps identify talented minorities while also developing a pipeline between students and firms, ultimately increasing diversity in the profession," said Ronald Atkins II, diversity and inclusion specialist at the AICPA, in a statement. “The AICPA has and continues to dedicate time, effort and resources to helping minorities with their pursuit of becoming CPAs."
The application period is open through April 30, 2022. Interested students can visit the AICPA's
