AICPA opens registration for 2020 Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop

The American Institute of CPAs is seeking college students to apply for its 2020 Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop, to be held May 13-15, 2020, in New Orleans.

Now in its 26th year, the three-day program invites minority college accounting students pursuing CPA licensure to bolster their skills and network with fellow students and CPAs. Sessions range from business etiquette, interviewing skills, and CPA Exam preparation.

“The working population is growing increasingly diverse, with studies showing the U.S. will be a minority majority nation within 25 years," stated Kim Drumgo, director of diversity and inclusion for the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants and vice chair of the AICPA National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion. "The accounting profession needs to be mindful of those trends and continue to make strides diversifying our pipeline of talent."

“We know that diverse organizations outperform their non-diverse competitors, and younger professionals, including millennials and Gen Z, want to work in diverse organizations," Drumgo added. "[The] ASLW helps show minority accounting students the career opportunities they’ll gain from earning their CPA licenses.”

The program is open to sophomore, junior, senior, 5th year or graduate college students for the 2019-20 academic year. Students must be majoring in accounting, finance or tax and intend to pursue the CPA credential.

Applications for the workshop will be accepted through Jan. 20, 2020. For more information, head to ThisWaytoCPA's site here.
