Accounting podcaster Blake Oliver has launched Version 1.0 of Earmark CPE, a new app that lets you listen to podcasts for free continuing professional education credits. Simply listen to a podcast (there's already quite a selection, and more are added weekly), go over the review questions, and take a short quiz (and take it again, if necessary ...). The app is currently only available for Apple iOS, but an Android version is on the way.

Studies and reports

The Reality of Intercompany,” a new study from intercompany financial management software provider FourQ, reports that effectively everyone at large and multinational corporations thinks that accounting and reporting around intercompany issues is difficult and getting harder, and has a serious negative impact on their accounting, finance and tax operations. ... LeaseQuery released “To the ASC 842 Finish Line and Beyond: A Survey of How Private Companies Are Preparing for the Lease Accounting Transition,” a new report that found that 40% of private companies are still in the very early stages of assessing their lease accounting implementation plan. ... A recent survey by the New Jersey Society of CPAs found that 88% of CPAs reported being either very or somewhat current on new technologies — though just over 60% struggle to learn how to use their existing technologies. More than 50% said that they are willing to invest proactively in technology, but more than 30% said that they don’t actually have an IT budget. ... B2B payments provider Billtrust released a study detailing the characteristics of top-performing accounts receivable organizations, including being completely digital in terms of receiving payments and sending out invoices. The results are summarized in a paper, “The State of Accounts Receivables Part Two: A Guide to Modernization.” ... Big Four firm Deloitte released “Software Capitalization: Accounting for Software Development Cost in the Age of Cloud and Agile,” examining the complexities of financial reporting in this critical area.
