ALABAMA

Kassouf & Co., Birmingham, promoted 19 people. Sunyoung Baek and Donnie Springer were named partners at Lindquist, San Ramon.

Novogradac, San Francisco, released a report, “The Novogradac Opportunity Zones Investment Report: Data Through Dec. 31, 2020,” which found that qualified opportunity funds tracked by the firm surpassed $15 billion at the end of 2020.

Bill Abel was hired as a tax manager at Lavine, Lofgren, Morris & Engelberg, San Diego.

CONNECTICUT

The Financial Accounting Standards Board, Norwalk, appointed three new members to its Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee: John Alfonso, partner, not-for-profit & education industry leader, CohnReznick LLP, New York City; Tina Dzik, partner, Cohen & Co., Cleveland; and Christine Terhark, audit & assurance managing director, Deloitte & Touche LLP, Des Moines, Iowa.

Alan Skelton was appointed director of research and technical activities at the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, Norwalk, starting April 1, 2021, replacing David Bean, who will retire on March 31, 2021, after serving as the GASB director for more than 30 years.

Stacy Farber and Neha Nathwani were promoted to principal at UHY Advisors, Farmington.

Bennett Thrasher, Atlanta, joined the Botkeeper Partner Program ecosystem, using the bookkeeping automation platform.

The Massachusetts Society of CPAs, Boston, partnered with national financial planning and registered investment advisory firm Integrated Partners to bring Pooled Employer Plans to their members, in an effort to bring access to lower cost employer-sponsored retirement plans to more Americans.

MISSOURI

BKD CPAs & Advisors, Springfield, announced partner Deborah Whitley and senior managing consultant Steve Smith will serve as representatives on the National Rural Health Association’s Rural Health Congress. Brian Teefey was hired as a director at Weaver, Dallas.

Fourlane, Austin, created the Fourlane Scholarship Fund to award college students pursuing a different path than traditional accounting roles. The scholarship, reviewed and distributed by a scholarship advisory board, will go to students who are, for example, interested in financial strategy and creativity, automation, and accounting software implementation instead of audit or tax. Fourlane’s hope is that recipients will go on to pursue careers as Certified Management Accountants, financial management accountants, software implementation consultants and technical accountants. Adrian Mayse

Adrian Mayse, CPA, associate professor and department chair of accounting at Howard University, published his first book, children’s fiction book “When I Grow Up I Want To Be… An Accountant,” which introduces kids to the profession.
