The California Society of CPAs honored three women in the accounting profession during its 2023 Women to Watch Awards at the Women's Leadership Forum in Mountain View. CalCPA announced as the Emerging Leader Award winner Elizabeth Houseman, senior associate, Sensiba San Filippo; Experienced Leader Award winner Irene Baba, trust solutions director, PwC; and Trailblazer Award winner Monic Ramirez, tax partner-in-charge, Sensiba San Filippo.

Tracy Kapteyn was hired in the newly created role of chief growth officer at Windes, Irvine.

Michael French, former managing director and director of tax & small business at Belfint Lyons & Shuman, Wilmington, retired on April 30. French worked his entire public accounting career at BLS, starting at the firm on Jan. 1, 1980, as the firm's first co-op, then rising to director and then managing director.

John Brackett was named chief risk officer at RSM US, Chicago, succeeding Bruce Jorth, who served in the role for 14 years. Brackett most recently served as the national leader of the risk consulting practice, a team he has been on since joining the firm 19 years ago.

The Indiana CPA Society, Indianapolis, partnered with online payments provider CPACharge.

The Massachusetts Society of CPAs announced Amy Pitter will retire as president and CEO of MassCPAs on Dec. 31, 2023, to be succeeded by Zach Donah, current deputy CEO and former vice president of advocacy. (Read the full story.)

David Sun was hired as a principal in the cybersecurity practice at CohnReznick, New York. 

Danielle Rolfes was named partner-in-charge of the Washington national tax practice at KPMG. Rolfes, who will also assume the role of tax policy lead for the Americas, succeeds Manal Corwin, who recently returned to public service as director of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Center for Tax Policy and Administration.

Ulises Ruiz was hired as principal-in-charge of international tax services at Prager Metis CPAs, New York.
