Henry+Horne, Tempe, participated in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, along with friends and family. The group climbed more than 2,000 stairs in Salt River Field stadium, the equivalent of the two towers’ 110 stories, with each participant carrying the name and picture of one of the victims during the climb. Now in its fifth year, the climb was hosted by the Salt River Indian Community Fire Department and raised $85,000 this year for programs provided by the NFFF to support the families of local fallen firefighters and the FDNY Counseling Services Unit.

"I think anyone in attendance would tell you what a humbling experience it was to be climbing those steps next to firefighters in their full gear," said Henry+Horne manager Courtnee Greshner in a statement. "It was an absolute honor to be able to pay tribute to the fallen first responders who lost their lives on 9/11."

The Virginia Society of CPAs, in recognition of Virginia CPA Week, Sept. 20–26, donated 1,000 copies of a children’s picture book “When I Grow Up I Want to Be … An Accountant” to local elementary schools, libraries, community centers and other organizations statewide.

Penned by Dr. Adrian Mayse, chair of accounting at Howard University and a member of the National Association of Black Accountants, the book looks to introduce diverse children to the accounting world.

“Promoting the possibilities of a career in accounting to elementary students is a wonderful way to celebrate Virginia CPA Week this year,” said VSCPA president and CEO Stephanie Peters in a statement. “It’s crucial that we encourage students to consider the immense doors accounting can open, and as part of our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, we also want to help increase the number of minority students who choose to pursue accounting and the CPA designation.”
