Firms giving back: Baker Tilly holds annual Stewardship Day, launches Foundation

Baker Tilly Virchow Krause holds its fourth annual Stewardship Day and launches the Baker Tilly Foundation; The Bonadio Group holds its second annual Purpose Day across New York; Henry+Horne donates more than $1,500 in school supplies; and Sax LLP announces its eighth annual '4 Miler' charity run.

Top 15 Firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause held its fourth annual Stewardship Day on August 1, 2019, which saw staff members volunteer with nearly 125 nonprofit organizations across 42 cities.

The firm also announced the launch of its Baker Tilly Foundation on Thursday, which will increase the firm's philanthropic efforts in the areas of education, health and wellness, and human services.

Baker Tilly partner Jennifer Soltis will serve as president of the Baker Tilly Foundation, as well as chairperson of its board of directors.

“The Baker Tilly Foundation aligns our giving to the causes that matter most to our team members and will be the cornerstone for firmwide charitable activities,” said Soltis in a statement. “Our team members make a difference every day through individual giving. Our foundation will do the same."

THE BONADIO GROUP

For the second year in a row, Top 100 Firm The Bonadio Group participated in its annual Purpose Day, volunteering in the local communities the firm serves.

On Thursday, staff members donated their time to local nonprofit organizations across its New York state offices. The firm will close its offices in observance of the day.

“Teamwork and service are key tenets of our purpose-driven culture at The Bonadio Group,” stated Bonadio Group CEO Bruce Zicari. “Together, through Purpose Day, we can make a significant difference for the thousands of people who are served by our non-profit friends and clients.”

More than 20 organizations throughout New York state were served, including:
  • Albany: Commission on Economic Opportunity, The Charlton School, Northern Rivers Family Services, Inc., St. Catherine's, and U.S.S. Slater;
  • Buffalo: Aspire of WNY, Pioneer Camp & Retreat Center, Lothlorien Therapeutic Riding Center, and Arc of Erie County;
  • New York City: Rising Ground;
  • Rochester: House of Mercy, Foodlink, DePaul, Gigi’s Playhouse, Ronald McDonald House, Hillside, Highland’s Living Center, Dress for Success, Lifetime Assistance; and
  • Syracuse: Salvation Army, Rescue Mission, and Syracuse City School District.

HENRY+HORNE

Henry+Horne recently donated more than $1,500 worth of school supplies to Create Academy in Phoenix, Arizona. Items included backpacks, notebooks, Kleenex, and folders. Create Academy is a public, tuition-free charter school that helps prepare students for success in college, careers and society.

Separately, Henry+Horne held a community service event at the the United School in Tempe, Arizona. Fifteen Henry+Horne staff members helped prepare the school for the new year by painting a Kindergarten Super-Classroom and tech classroom, cleaned carpeting, and helped rearrange furniture.

SAX LLP

Clifton, New Jersey-based accounting firm Sax LLP has announced its eighth annual "4 Miler" charity run, to be held October 5, 2019.

Held at Garret Mountain in Woodland Park, New Jersey, the event benefits the St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson. Sax’s Charitable Foundation will absorb all costs, with all proceeds going directly to the Hospital’s Child Life Department to provide high-impact therapies for pediatric patients dealing will illness, treatment and hospitalization.

Since the event’s inception in 2012, Sax's 4 Miler event has raised over $430,000 for St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and has become the Child Life Department’s largest financial contributor.
