In 2022, Americans gave nearly $500 billion to charity, with 64% of the funds coming directly from individuals, according to the National Philanthropic Trust. In addition to monetary donations, Americans also contributed their time, serving a combined total of 4.1 billion volunteer hours per year, the equivalent of $122.9 billion of service.
WalletHub recently ranked the most charitable states in America, rating factors such as "volunteering & service" and "charitable giving" to determine a total score and ranking.
The top state on this list had a total score of 69.65 out of 100 and ranked fourth in volunteering and service, as well as fifth in charitable giving.
