The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board announced on Thursday that 207 U.S. college students will receive $10,000 scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year.
PCAOB Scholars are nominated by their colleges and universities. Nominated students must be enrolled in accounting degree programs. Schools are encouraged to consider students from groups who are underrepresented in the accounting profession.
"The PCAOB Scholars program aims to benefit outstanding students who are likely to become accountants and auditors," stated PCAOB chairman William Duhnke. "We congratulate this group of students and look forward to engaging with them as they continue to pursue a career in the profession."
The scholarships are made possible by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which states that monetary penalties imposed by the PCAOB in its disciplinary proceedings can be used to fund merit scholarships for students in accredited accounting degree programs.
