The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants will award more than $520,000 in scholarships. Award recipients accept their awards during the 54th Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony at 7:00pm on Thursday, April 24, at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel in Iselin. For many of the students, the ceremony and the opportunity to meet with practicing CPAs and representatives from many of the state’s leading accounting firms will give them their first, full-fledged professional networking experience. This year’s scholarships will go to 26 high school and 63 college students, representing almost every county in New Jersey. KPMG LLP will celebrate Earth Day which takes place on April 22 with a week devoted to conducting environmental sustainability service projects in its 90 offices throughout the United States. The Construction Services Practice of Marcum LLP debuts its analysis of construction industry hiring trends, based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. Marcum’s JOLT Survey Analysis found that shortages of in-demand construction skills helped drive down the construction hiring rate in late 2013, despite a significant increase in the number of construction job openings.. PwC released its Conflict Minerals Survey which found that only 4 percent of companies have completed their draft filings and 90 percent haven’t even begun drafting or have only developed initial drafts with significant work still needed, providing a rapidly narrowing window of action before the deadline arrives. The new accounting consulting firm, Metzler Advisory Group, has picked up Tronconi Segarra & Associates LLP as one of its first clients. Starting in June, the advisory firm, will counsel TSA on its growth strategy.
