The 2019 enrollment renewal period for Enrolled Agents is now open through Jan. 31, 2019, according to the IRS.
EAs are required to renew their status during this time if their Social Security number ends in 0, 1, 2 or 3. Without renewal, enrollments will expire on March 31.
Enrollment renewal applications and payments can be submitted online through Pay.gov.
Those wanting to renew must have an active PTIN and complete a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education each year of the enrollment cycle for a total 72 hours, plus two hours of ethics or professional conduct completed during each enrollment year. If this is an EA’s first renewal, completion of two hours of CE for each month of the enrollment, including two hours of ethics or professional conduct, is required each year.
The non-refundable renewal fee is $30.

EAs with Social Security numbers ending in 7, 8 or 9 or who have no Social Security numbers and who have not renewed for the 2015 and 2018 cycles will have their enrollment placed in terminated status. Anyone in terminated status must re-take the SEE to apply for re-enrollment. Similar EAs who did not renew for the 2018 cycle will have their enrollment placed in inactive status. Anyone in inactive status can still submit a late renewal for approval with proof of CE.
