As workplaces continue to evolve as quickly as technology dictates, over three quarters of accounting firms reported in a recent survey that they allow staff to work remotely.
The
"In our firm, everyone works remotely," stated one anonymous participant. "It makes hiring decisions that much more important because the wrong people will abuse the situation.”
Nearly 75 percent of those polled work in a "large" (21-74 CPAs) or "major" firm (75+ CPAs), while the majority of the final quarter worked in midsized firms.
Other notable findings include:
- 83 percent of firms have invested in cloud or other technology allowing them to work away from the office.
- 41 percent of firms no longer mandate Saturday work during busy season. "I feel the elimination of mandatory Saturdays was a huge step forward in our firm," said one respondent. "While I am surprised by the number of people that still come in on Saturdays, I know that the people who [don't] love the flexibility.
- 39 percent of firms have implemented performance measures for staff that are not based on time.
- 37 percent of the responding firms employ remote workers outside to their specific office.
