The IRS kicked off its series of forums here on Tuesday with over 2,500 attendees. The three-day forums, held each year, cover a range of tax compliance and administrative topics, and feature speakers from academia and the private sector, as well as from the IRS.
"We're pleased with the turnout for this first tax forum of the year," said Michael Dobzinski, media relations specialist for the IRS in Florida. "We look forward to assisting other tax professionals at the remaining five forums."
The remaining forums will be held in Atlanta on July 10-12; San Diego on July 17-19; Las Vegas on July 31-August 2; Chicago on August 21-23; and New York on August 28-30.
Registrants may receive up to 18 credits of CPE. A plenary session provides an overview of 2012 tax law changes. Other topics include "Schedule C Issues Facing the Tax Professional;" "Tax Provisions of the Affordable Care Act;" "A Collection Guide to Payment Options and Solutions;" "A Crash Course in Retirement Plan Contributions;" and "Examination Representation 101."
Each forum will have a Practitioner Case Resolution Program that allows practitioners to bring their toughest case to the program. IRS representatives with specialized experience are available by appointment to meet one-on-one with tax professionals to discuss client tax cases. If the case can't be resolved on site, it will be assigned to an appropriate IRS professional for follow-up.
