The group, the state’s largest professional organization for CPAs, made the announcement during its annual Board of Directors meeting held at the Albany Hilton last week.
“The New York State Society of CPAs is in the business of advocating for New York businesses and for the profession,” said NYSSCPA President Joseph Falbo, Jr. in a statement. “If there is a issue that affects CPAs in in New York—and almost any business issue has an impact on the profession—the NYSSCPA works with relevant regulators and lawmakers to address it. Having an official and on-going presence with this office will allow us to do even more of that."
The office will be used by the Society’s government affairs team for advocacy efforts with state lawmakers and regulators regarding the NYSSCPA’s legislative priorities and to build a stronger grassroots network with Albany-area CPAs.
“When it comes to professional issues, you don’t need to be a member of ours in order to benefit from our advocacy efforts,” Falbo added. “We’re here in Albany to protect the CPA license. There are about 50,000 CPAs in New York State, and about two-thirds of them are members. That’s a pretty significant voting block, so we see a lot of potential for our government affairs program with this new office."
The NYSSCPA’s new Albany office is located at 11 North Pearl Street in downtown Albany.
