Adelphi University announced this week that theirRobert B. Willumstad School of Businesswill kick off the annualCareer Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) summerprogram, designed to introduce minority high school juniors in New York State to the accounting profession. Approximately 40 local students will participate in Adelphi's five-day program, which begins Saturday, June 25.

Designed by theNew York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and the Foundation for AccountingEducation, the free COAP program is available on 11 college campuses across New York State in the month of June, hosting approximately 250 students each year.

The COAP program will see students familiarize themselves with the accounting profession through classes and workshops on campus, in addition to trips to local firms. Professors, current accounting students, and recent alumni volunteer for the program, which includes events ranging from an etiquette dinner to college prep sessions and panel discussions. Participating COAP students can stay in the University's residence halls as well in order to further the collegiate experience.

The COAP program was founded in 1987 by the NYSSCPA and the Foundation for AccountingEducation to help better recruit high school juniors from public and private schools in New York State and familiarize them with the benefits of an accounting career.
